What makes Waiakeawaena Special? "First and foremost, the people (the children and adults). Each individual gives life to the campus! Each personality adds the character to what makes Waiakeawaena. We are one 'OHANA. We are family!"

Welcome to Waiakeawaena's Makerspace!

What is a Makerspace?

An informal space for students to participate and learn in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) and cultural activities that promote creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, experimentation, and basic tinkering. Waiākeawaena teachers are always looking to try new things and create our own path; to be artistic and innovative in our craft. We see our students as individuals. Makerspace allows us to think outside the box, connect to the real world, and create a space that is completely student driven.

We wanted to give a special THANK YOU to Marybeth Laychak of the France-Canada-Hawaii Telescope who came in and made light sabers out of glow sticks with the students! So fun!
Our door is always open to volunteers! We are also accepting donations to help keep the fun going! We love toilet paper rolls, foil, cereal boxes, PVC pipes, baking soda, alka seltzer, paint, etc. Please contact Tarah Green or Camerie Sueoka at tgreen@waiakeawaena.k12.hi.us
Thank you!
